Lakewood Torture-Homicide Victim Identified

Alfred Keith Roberts was found in rural Pierce County in March. Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the July 2010 torture-killing case.

Lakewood Police Lt. Chris Lawler said dental records were used to identify the body of a man who was tortured and killed in July 2010 as 50-year-old Alfred Keith Roberts.

Roberts' body was found March 10 near a hiking trail at Harts Lake in Roy. Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the homicide, which occurred at an apartment complex in the 3500 block of 82nd Street South in Lakewood.

Four of the suspects have been charged with aggravated first-degree murder for their involvement in the crime, which police say was motivated by drugs and revenge. A fifth person was arrested this past month.

A 19-minute video obtained by detectives shows a man believed to be Maalo Semu Samaota—the main suspect in the homicide—taunting and torturing Roberts with a knife. Michael Crosman, 25, told investigators that Samaota, 31, wielded a knife and taunted the victim in a Lakewood apartment. Although the video doesn't show Roberts' death, Crosman is believed to have taken the footage and faces the same charges.

Charging documents show that Randall Stuart Harbin, 56, wanted to get back at Roberts for stealing his car, which contained methamphetamine.

Harbin told Samoata to locate the vehicle, according to the documents. Lawler said Aleeya Dawn Freeman provided one of the defendants transportation from the crime scene. Detectives also believe Freeman was in the Lakewood apartment when Roberts was bound and assaulted.

The name of the fifth suspect—a woman—has not been revealed because she has not yet been charged.
