Athletes, Pride Shine During Special Olympics Washington Summer Games

The games - which took place over the weekend at Joint Base Lewis-McChord - brought out the best in its competitors.

This past weekend, the scorecard didn't matter at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

True, some 2,700 competitors converged on the base for the Special Olympics Washington Summer Games.

And yes, those competitors placed first, second, third and so on.

Still, the thing many took away from the games isn't necessarily the records or the medals, although those are pretty sweet too.

It's the pride of competing in the games - that thing that reminds Special Olympics athletes that anything is possible - that they'll be taking away.

Special Olympics Washington posted a great photo gallery on its Flickr page here.
