Classroom Honors Dedicated Soldier, Sgt. Nicholas Dickhut

A Joint Fire Observation classroom at JBLM was dedicated to the late 23-year-old this morning, July 23.

Sergeant Nicholas Dickhut died fighting for stability in Afghanistan. Now a Joint Fire Observation classroom at JBLM is dedicated to him.

The 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division held a short ceremony this morning, talking about Dickhut's accomplishments as a soldier and how others remember him.

"His presence was awesome," Dickhut's former roommate Sgt. Jordan Stinson said of him.

Dickhut, originally from Rochester, MN, served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. He died of wounds sustained from an enemy attack on April 30, 2012 at the age of 23.

The facility that honors him is a simulation of desert combat, where soldiers can practice their ability to talk people onto mission targets.

Dickhut's family members attended the ceremony and are in several photos above.
