Get Out: Christmas Places to Visit for Dec. 9-11

  • Where/When: 4-7:30 p.m. on Sat, Dec. 10 at Historic Fort Steilacoom.
  • Why Go: Travel back in time to Fort Steilacoom as it might have been at Christmas in 1859. Tour the candle and lantern lit quarters of Lt. Col. Silas Casey and soldiers of the fort and their families and guests engaged in Christmas merry making, conversation of the time, tree trimming, dancing to the tunes of a fiddler, and caroling. Special activities for children include hands-on ornament making. And the gift shop has a good stock of books, toys, and souvenir items for your Christmas shopping.
  • Cost: $10 families or $5 for adults and $3 for children.

  • Where/When: 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 9 at .
  • Why Go: Join the City of U.P. for the first annual Duck the Halls caroling competition this Friday night. Teams of carolers will compete for awards by performing two holiday songs. If you don't have a team entered now, you'll have to sit this one out. The deadline to enter a team was back in mid-November.
  • Cost: Free. Participating teams must donate at least five items of nonperishable food for each member. Audience members are also encouraged to bring food items for the U.P. Food Bank.

  • Why Go: The Narrows Co-Op Preschool is holding its second annual craft bazaar, featuring a variety of gifts ranging from toys and beauty products to holiday ornaments and more. Vendors include Belle Soleil Barrettes, Pip & Lola’s Everything Homemade, Laughing Lotus and more.
  • Cost: Admission is free.

  • Where/When: 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10 at the .
  • Why Go: Find great buys and support library services. Residents donated used books, CDs and DVDs for the sale. Funds from the book sales will help the Friends sponsor events for children and adults as well as furnishings and other needs at the libraries.

  • Where/When: 6 p.m. on Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday at .
  • Why Go: The Sunset Bible Church is proud to present this free, family-friendly Christmas program about how King David's life sets the stage for the Christmas story. The production will feature original drama and music as well as a holiday dessert and hot chocolate bar.
