High Winds, Heavy Rain Forecast for Lakewood and JBLM on Friday

The storm could bring wind gusts up to 50 mph in the Puget Sound area.

Western Washington is in for a wet and windy Friday, with gusts of up to 50 mph possible in some areas.

Heavy rain is also expected throughout the region, and sustained winds of 18 to 23 miles per hour are expected in Lakewood and Joint Base Lewis-McChord. (See complete local forecast here.)

The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for the Western Washington area, including a Winter Storm Watch for the mountains, where 1 to 2 feet of fresh snow is expected to fall by Saturday morning. Backcountry travel is not recommended during this time, due to avalanche danger.

Things are expected to calm down for the weekend. At Joint Base Lewis-McChord, the Saturday forecast calls for mostly cloudy conditions with a high near 45 degrees and winds around 17 mph.
