Lakewood Man's Weight-Loss Success Story Featured On Huffington Post

Ryan Cope shared his inspiring story of losing nearly 200 pounds on The Huffington Post. He tells Patch that's just the beginning.

A Lakewood man's weight-loss success story is gaining some national publicity.

Ryan Cope, 43, weighed 409 pounds in 2001. Throughout his life, the Ohio native admits he was obese. He developed a case of gout at 11 years old. He would hide plates of food under his bed so his family couldn't find them. He tried dieting as a teen-ager, but nothing ever stuck.

At least that was the case until a cold reality check - an impromptu blood sugar check in which he registered a 520 - pushed Cope to make a life-altering changes. Twelve years later, he weighs 209 pounds, nearly half of where he once registered.

At the prompting of wife Krista, Cope shared his story on The Huffington Post in a post titled, "I Lost Weight: After A No-Nonsense Doctor's Warning, Ryan Cope Lost 193 Pounds."

Cope told Patch that countless people have read or shared his story, and plenty have congratulated him about losing nearly half his weight.

But, he added, his success story isn't over. "I'm still going. It's a continuing process."
