Lakewood Water District Dedicates Its Largest Tank To W. "Bill" Philip

The 8-million-gallon tank, located on Hemlock Street near Fort Steilacoom Park, was dedicated during a ceremony last month.

The Lakewood Water District's largest water tank now bears the name of one of its longtime commissioners.

The water district dedicated its 8-million-gallon on Hemlock Street tank last month in honor of now-retired Commissioner W. "Bill" Philip, who spent more than 44 years on the board, many of which as vice president.

Members of the District staff and Mr. Philip’s family attended, taking the opportunity to speak of his rich and frequent contributions of time  and talent.  It seemed quite appropriate to dedicate such a huge structure to such a  “huge” individual and faithful servant to this community, the district said.

The tank, located above Fort Steilacoom Park, now has a plaque bearing his name.
