Guns-A-Go-Go Soldiers Of Past And Present Come Together at JBLM

Veterans and current soldiers of this prolific unit met at Joint Base Lewis-McChord to share stories and honors their accomplishments.

The Vietnam veterans who flew ACH-47 Chinook helicopters were the first to develop, test and employ these aircraft.

Now, the members of A Company, 4-160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) carry the name and legacy of the first unit: Guns-A-Go-Go.

The veterans and current soldiers came together Friday at Joint Base Lewis-McChord to share stories and honor their common lineage as innovators in the air.

The CH-47's of the Vietnam era were transformed into the MH-47's employed now. Formerly, the helicopters carried cargo, until the original unit within Army Aviation turned them into attack helicopters. It is the first time the veterans have visited JBLM, although they have annual reunions in Huntsville, AL.

Maj. Gabe Wolfe, Commander of A Company 4-160th SOAR(A), said he hopes that the soldiers and veterans will be able to at least have informal reunions annually.
