THIS WEEKEND: Catch a Fish, Frolick At a Carnival, Pick Up Trash and More

The sun is expected to be out, and there's plenty to do to celebrate this weekend. Check out our picks for ways to keep busy around town.

Kingdom Carnival

  • Where/When: 5:30-8:30 p.m., Friday, May 18, at Idewild Elementary School
  • Why go: Lords and ladies, lads and lasses from across the land will come together for the school's annual PTSA-sponsored carnival, which is kingdom themed this year. Among the offerings are an obstacle course, jump house and dunking of a fifth-grader.
  • Cost: Admission is free; tickets must be purchased for attractions.

Family Bingo Night and Silent Auction

  • Where/When: 6 p.m. Friday, May 18, at .
  • Why go: Come join Lakes' PTSA for an affordable, all-ages evening of bingo fun and prizes. There will also be a silent auction with baskets full of great deals you won't get anywhere else. Bring your family and friends and be ready to have a great time!
  • Cost: $5 per person. All proceeds benefit the Lakes Graduation Party for the Class of 2012.

  • Where/When: Saturday, May 19. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at Lakewood City Hall.
  • Why go: Do you love Lakewood? Then help keep it clean! This city-wide litter clean-up combines productivity and community spirit. Participants will be rewarded with a free hot-dog picnic at City Hall at noon.
  • Cost: Free. 

Kids' Fish-In

  • Where/When: 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 19, at .
  • Why go: Come watch children between the ages of 5-14 fish at this annual event sponsored by the city and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. Each child may catch and keep up to two fish, which will be cleaned and put on ice to take home.
  • Cost: $10 registration was due by May 6; free for spectators.

  • Where/When: Noon, Saturday, May 19, at the Lakewood Library.
  • Why go: Do you wish you had a never-ending supply of fresh eggs? Discover how to get started keeping chickens in your own backyard at this workshop. Learn everything from how to buy chicks to tips for housing and feeding.
  • Cost: Free.
