Meet Colette Moss
Lakes High School senior has a passion for academics and serving her community.
Whiz Kid's name: Colette Moss
Whiz Kid's age: 17
Whiz Kid's school: Lakes High School
Whiz Kid's accomplishment: Colette recently was one of two students from Lakewood to win a Leaders and Achievers Scholarship from Comcast. She holds a 3.92 grade-point average and is headed to the University of Washington in the fall, where she will study psychology. Colette serves on the Lakewood Youth Council and is heavily involved with Caring For Kids. She is also member of Lakes’ Knowledge Bowl team, French Club and Choral Leadership team.
Whiz Kid's key to awesomeness: In her essay for the Comcast scholarship, Colette explained that Youth Council is especially important to her because members get a chance to help their community – “not as students from a school club, but as an eclectic group of positive teenage leaders.” In a recommendation letter for the scholarship, her senior adviser, Tami Johnson, said that in logging more than 100 hours serving the community, Colette has become “the best example of today’s service-oriented youth.”
