THIS WEEKEND: Hit Up Kite Festival, Hear Some Tunes, Feast On Salmon

Summer is in full swing! Check out our picks for things to do around the region this weekend.

Kite Festival

Find out what's happening in Lakewood-JBLMwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

  • When/Where: Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Central Meadow Field, Chambers Creek Regional Park
  • Why go: Come out for Pierce County Parks and Recreation’s first annual kite festival, featuring kite flying, vendors, a bounce house, face painting and more. The first 200 kids can make their own kites. Patch is a sponsor of the event, so stop by our booth for some cool swag. 
  • Cost: Free

TheBEAT: Featuring Superchick and Addison Road

  • When/Where: Today from 3-11 p.m., Fort Steilacoom Park
  • Why Go: Hear Superchick perform their five No. 1 hits, along with Dove Music Award's 2009 New Artist of the Year nominee, Addison Road, as they play to raise money for charity. There will also be praise and worship.
  • Cost: Kids 10 and under are free; general admission is $25.

Steilacoom Salmon Bake

  • When/Where: Sunday, noon to 4 p.m., Sunnyside Beach
  • Why Go: Enjoy a salmon meal and all the trimmings on the shores of Puget Sound at the Steilacoom Historical Museum Association’s annual event.
  • Cost: $14 for a salmon meal; $6 for a hot-dog meal. Drinks and dessert are included.

The Moveable Feast

  • When/Where: Sunday from noon to 7 p.m., Cheney Stadium, Tacoma
  • Why Go: More than 30 vendors will be on hand for Tacoma’s inaugural food-truck festival, selling everything from pad thai to cupcakes. Many of the vendors are South Sound-centric. There will also be beer, music, a kid zone, skate contest and more.
  • Cost: Admission is free. Every vendor has its own prices for food.
