On its second day of business, plenty of curious foodies waited eagerly to enjoy Lakewood’s newest burger joint, DeLong’s DeLuxe.
Patch stopped by the location at Bridgeport Way and Steilacoom Boulevard Southwest around 11:30 a.m., on Thursday. By then, the parking lot was packed and at least 15 people were patiently waiting to get their food and more lining up to order.
After its grand opening on Wednesday, DeLong’s DeLuxe thanked its customers on Facebook and promised to refine and improve its operations.
One customer, John Mathis, said he came on Wednesday but left without getting food because of the long line. On Thursday, he said he waited about 30 minutes for his cheeseburger, fries and strawberry shake.
Mathis, who happens to owns five Subway restaurants in the Tacoma and Lakewood area, said he eats at all of the competing fast food restaurants in the area and offered some advice for the new restaurant in town.
“Lunch is about fast service,” he said.
Although the restaurant currently has two picnic tables outside the order window, Mathis said additional covered seating areas would be nice for rainy days.
On a previous Patch post, owners Marie and Tim DeLong said shade sails would be installed later in spring.
In the meantime, no one seemed to mind the wait and the limited seating areas--thanks to the rare sunshine in February.
DeLong’s DeLuxe offers 13 different options for burgers and six for hot dogs. It also serves sundaes and shakes.
