Fan Club Sports Bar in Lakewood Under New Ownership

Longtime sports bar experiences change in entertainment offerings.

Mark Teigan and Tim Smiley, new owners of a Lakewood Bar, are aiming to draw a slightly older crowd.

For sometime, a DJ spun music at the the Fan Club Sports Bar & Grill on Friday and Saturday nights. Don and Lisa Daniels were the previous owners.

That has changed. Live bands have replaced DJs. Smiley said the 30-plus crowd is who they're looking to draw.

Different bands perform 70s, 80s and 90s classic rock featuring covers like Pink Floyd, Moody Blues and ZZ Top. There are also local favorites you can dance to like Boneyard, Knee Deep Band, Kickstart and Threshold.

Not big on dancing? There’s plenty of seating for socializing, dining or just taking in the scene.

The music isn't the only thing that's changed. Nightly specials such as Monday Bar Bingo, Taco Tuesday (75-cent tacos), Wing Wednesday (50-cent hot wings), Thursday Karaoke and Ladies Night are meant to draw folks in during the week while live music and dancing provide added excitement on the weekend.

Beyond the nightlife, new owners want to be a nice neighborhood bar, where people just want to hang-out, Smiley said.

“Sports watching is a big deal at The Fan Club," he added.

In addition to 13 Hi-Def TVs, an 82-inch flat-screen has been added. Pool tables, pull tabs, dance floor, banquet facilities and a large outdoor patio with seating serve as fun bar entertainment and a nice social environment.

In the eats category, The Fan Club has more than 50 menu items. Check out cold and hot deli sandwiches, hamburgers, salads, homemade soups, fish and chicken dinners and pizzas.

Smiley said more finger-foods like battered mushrooms and fried zucchini sticks have been added. Classic American breakfasts like pancakes, eggs Benedict, sausage gravy and biscuits, omelets and French toast are served.

“We just made it easy for everybody," Smiley said. "Happy Hour is every day from when we open till 6 p.m.”

The fan club will host a free barbecue sponsored by Budweiser on Sept. 11, in light of the 10-year anniversary of 9-11 and the season opener of football as the Seattle Seahawks will play the San Francisco 49ers. The game will be shown on all screens.
