Why Go: The Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Fair gives students an opportunity to explore the natural world and apply STEM skills. Visit Lakes High School this Saturday and view the student projects and take part in science and engineering activities.

Cost: Admission is free.

Where/When: 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Tacoma Musical Playhouse.

Why Go: Join the Tacoma Musical Playhouse this weekend for the regional premiere production of the musical adaptation of Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Color Purple. With a joyous score featuring jazz, ragtime, gospel, African music and blues, this inspiring family saga tells the unforgettable story of Celie, a downtrodden young woman whose personal awakening over the course of 40 years leads her to find the strength to triumph over adversity and discover her unique voice in the world.

Cost: $27 for adults and $25 for seniors, students and military.

 

Where/When: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, at the Curran Apple Orchard.

Why Go: Test out your pruning skills under the guidance of master gardeners and trained volunteers at the Curran Apple Orchard this Saturday. Visit the Curran Apple Orchard website for more information about the Pruning Parties.

Cost: Free.

 

Where/When: 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, at the University Place Library.

Why Go: Join Larry Matsuda, a former Seattle University Visiting Professor, as he shares his story about being born in and living in the internment camp at Minidoka, Idaho.

Cost: Free.

 

Where/When: 12-8 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday at the Greater Tacoma Convention & Trade Center.

Why Go: Homeowners interested in remodeling can gather information and make all the connections they’ll need this weekend during the Tacoma Remodeling Expo. More than 250 vendors will be on site with their products and expertise in virtually all aspects of home remodeling.

Cost: $5 adults, children under 18 free.

 

Where/When: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, at the Puyallup Fair Grounds Pavillion.

Why Go: The Mike & Key Electronics Show & Fleamarket is one of the largest annual Amateur Radio events in the Pacific Northwest. Browse the 300-plus tables selling radios, computers, and general electronics equipment. Lots of radio- and computer- related items are available for sale and or trade.

Cost: Tickets are $8.
