Congressman Denny Heck is co-sponsoring two important pieces of legislation for South Sound families: the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act and the Paycheck Fairness Act.
The Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act significantly strengthens the ability of the federal government, the states, law enforcement, and service providers to combat domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. It renews and improves successful violence prevention programs that expired last year due to Congressional inaction.
The Paycheck Fairness Act is a common-sense proposal that strengthens South Sound families. The bill closes loopholes created by pay discrimination lawsuits and takes steps to make the enforcement of existing federal pay discrimination laws more effective. The bill also prohibits employers from retaliating against employees who discuss or disclose salary information with their co-workers.
“I strongly believe that every woman deserves safety and a fair shot at the American Dream. Congress must take action on these two important bills as soon as possible. We cannot allow Congressional gridlock to doom these common-sense proposals. The safety and fair treatment of women in the South Sound and across America cannot be a partisan issue,” Congressman Heck said.
