Every Woman Deserves Safety and a Fair Shot at the American Dream

Congressman Denny Heck is co-sponsoring two important pieces of legislation for South Sound families: the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act and the Paycheck Fairness Act.

The Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act significantly strengthens the ability of the federal government, the states, law enforcement, and service providers to combat domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. It renews and improves successful violence prevention programs that expired last year due to Congressional inaction.

The Paycheck Fairness Act is a common-sense proposal that strengthens South Sound families. The bill closes loopholes created by pay discrimination lawsuits and takes steps to make the enforcement of existing federal pay discrimination laws more effective. The bill also prohibits employers from retaliating against employees who discuss or disclose salary information with their co-workers.

“I strongly believe that every woman deserves safety and a fair shot at the American Dream. Congress must take action on these two important bills as soon as possible. We cannot allow Congressional gridlock to doom these common-sense proposals. The safety and fair treatment of women in the South Sound and across America cannot be a partisan issue,” Congressman Heck said.

Amen! My Greener brother! You should look into some of your state agencies as well as far as the way women are being treated! I have been a caregiver for my mother for over 12 years now! As soon as a state agency got involved, issues have gotten worse. And as far as equal pay, lol, when the COPES program got involved in my mother's situation, they pay me for 100 hours a month, but expect me to do 24 hour care and then question me about running to the grocery store and leaving my brother with my mother! You should really check into this agency and the way they are treating family member caregivers! It is like they own you! And some of the social workers have no people skills! I will send you an e-mail! But yeah! equal pay, the state is really getting over on family caregivers! And then they act like they are doing you a favor!
