Lots going on at Pierce College: Environmentalist Annie Leonard tells how our stuff harms the environment on Tuesday May 7; a Holocaust survivor speaks on Wednesday May 8; Job fair May 8 & 15.

From Holocaust presentations to job fairs, there’s a lot going on at Pierce College this week.

Here's a round-up of events. Unless otherwise noted, the events are at the Fort Steilacoom campus, 9401 Farwest Dr. SW, Lakewood, Wash., 98498.

“Through the eyes of a friend.” A one-act, 25-minute, multi-media production by education theater group, Living Voices, explores the life of Anne Frank as told by her fictional best friend. Free. See details at http://bit.ly/13oCHkB.

– Author Annie Leonard. Featured on Good Morning America, The Colbert Report, and numerous other TV shows and articles, Leonard will talk about her book and animated video, “The Story of Stuff,” one of the most-watched online environmental cartoons of all time. Leonard and the nonprofit Story of Stuff Project urge people to jump off the consumer treadmill of buying stuff, keeping stuff and working to buy more stuff. More info: http://bit.ly/107szw2

– Holocaust survivor Josh Gortler. Gortler shares how he and his family passed themselves off as Christians and fled from Poland to Siberia during World War II.  When he was 3 years old, the Germans hanged his grandfather, the village’s chief rabbi, in the town square of his Polish village. Gortler, who knew no English when he later arrived in America, eventually earned a master’s degree in social services and became executive director of a skilled nursing facility in Seattle. Free.
