Pierce College names new president of Puyallup campus

Dr. Marty Cavalluzzi will take over as president of the Pierce College Puyallup campus starting July 1, 2013.

Pierce College has selected Dr. Marty Cavalluzzi to become the next president of the Puyallup campus beginning July 1, 2013. 

Dr. Cavalluzzi currently serves as executive vice president for instruction and chief academic officer at Edmonds Community College. Previous posts included dean of science and math at Seattle Central Community College and associate dean for science and math at Northwest Indian College in Bellingham. He also taught several zoology and biology courses.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be coming to Pierce College Puyallup,” Cavalluzzi said. “I truly believe in servicing students; it’s the reason we’re here.

“Pierce truly is a community’s college; you can see it through the programs it has to offer.  I look forward to meeting the students, helping the college and working with the community.” 

Cavalluzzi holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Marine Science, a Master of Arts in Marine Science from The College of William and Mary in Virginia, and a Bachelor of Science in Fisheries from Humboldt State University in California.

He started his higher education by earning an Associate of Arts at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, Calif.

Cavalluzzi’s experience in a variety of community college settings will be valuable in leading Pierce College Puyallup, noted Pierce College District Chancellor and CEO Michele L. Johnson. 

“Dr. Cavalluzzi is comfortable and capable of navigating large and complex college districts having worked for both Seattle Community Colleges and Edmonds Community College. He is a highly engaged, forward thinking leader and team player who has a passion for teaching and learning and commitment to student success,” Johnson said.

“Dr. Cavalluzzi is an enthusiastic collaborative leader who builds strong internal and external relationships, and provides innovative solutions to the many challenges we face in higher education. He will be a great fit at Puyallup.”

Pierce College Puyallup is part of Pierce College District 11, which includes the Fort Steilacoom campus, education centers at Fort Lewis and McChord, and online and continuing education programs.
