Census Data Reports A Decline in Lakewood's Population

City is one of just two that did not experience an increase in population size.

Lakewood's population declined between 2000 and 2010, according to new figures released by the U.S Census Bureau.

The city's population dropped from 58,211 to 58,163, a reduction of -0.1. It's one of just two cities in the state that shrunk and ranks as the 11th largest city. Seattle, Spokane and Tacoma rank as the three largest.

Pierce County represents the second biggest and saw a 13.5 percent increase in population with 795,225, up 94,405 from 2000. King County still holds the largest population (1,737,034) but ranks below Pierce in percentage growth (11.2).
