City of Lakewood Features New Kiosk in Lobby

Discussions on the Joint Base Lewis-McChord Growth Coordination Plan continue.

  • City has new computer kiosk:  The City of Lakewood now has a computer kiosk available for use by customers visiting City Hall. It is located on the first floor next to the reception counter. The computer is limited to accessing the City’s website and applying for job opportunities through NeoGov. More functionality may be added later.
  • Flood Control Zone discussion:  The mayor and city manager attended a meeting on April 29th hosted by County Executive Pat McCarthy and County Councilmember Joyce McDonald regarding options for moving the flood control zone agenda forward. Most of the cities in the county participated in an open discussion about flooding risks and proposed projects, organizational and governance alternatives, and other options for addressing the regional issue. The county officials committed to a continued open process for discussion and presentation before further steps are taken.
  • Mountain View First Responders Memorial:  The mayor, city manager, and a number of Lakewood police officers and West Pierce Fire & Rescue fire department personnel attended the unveiling of the First Responders Memorial at Mountain View on April 28. The ceremony included a respectful honor paid to police officers, firefighters, and other public safety officers who have given their lives to serve and protect the community. Special recognition was paid to the survivors of the fallen heroes.
  • South Sound Military & Communities Partnership:  The steering committee of the Joint Base Lewis-McChord Growth Coordination Plan implementation process, chaired by the city manager, met on April 22 to develop plans for the upcoming Elected Officials Council to be started in early June. The new board will be convened by the Lakewood mayor, the Pierce County Executive, and the chair of the Thurston County Board of Commissioners, and will play a regional role in reviewing and confirming the annual work plan, coordinating legislative strategies and outreach efforts for the priorities facing the region.
