Neighbors Near The North End Of Camp Murray Might Hear A Boom This Weekend

The Washington Army National Guard will be firing a cannon salute both Saturday and Sunday this weekend at the north end of Camp Murray on the parade field.

The Washington Army National Guard will be firing a cannon salute both Saturday and Sunday at the north end of Camp Murray on the parade field.

Saturday, the cannon salute is part of the 81st Armored Brigade Combat Team change of command ceremony scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. The ceremony will honor COL Christopher Fowler as he transfers command to COL Michael Weitzel.

Sunday, the cannon salute is part of a retirement ceremony for MSG Joel Cournyer. MSG Cournyer is retiring after 32 years of dedicated service to the United States Army and the Washington National Guard. The retirement ceremony is scheduled to begin at 4:00p.m.

The duration of the volleys will be short but will be audible in Tillicum, on Camp Murray and on parts of Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
