Major Meteor Shower Expected Tonight, First of 2012

For several hours starting around 11:30 p.m., there could be 100 shooting stars per hour for several hours according to NASA. Of course, that depends on clear skies in the South Sound.

Whenever I see a shooting star it's usually by chance. But tonight around 11:30 p.m., depending on cloud cover in the South Sound, observers can look forward to 2012's first major meteor shower as reported in the Huffintgon Post today.

The showers are expected to last several hours in the Northern Hemisphere and could produce as many as 100 shooting stars each hour, according to NASA.

If there are clear skies tonight, Patch will drive to Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place and hopefully catch the shooting star extravaganza. We'll upload some video if we're fortunate enough.
