State Championship Reflections

Patch is encouraging those who were in Yakima watching the Clover Park boys' championship run to upload photos to our gallery.

Lakewood has hoops talent, the two state championships Lakes and Clover Park boys basketball teams brought home is living proof.

Lakes entered the Class 3A state tourney as the No. 5 ranked team in the state. They crushed Mount Vernon and found a way to beat top-ranked O'Dea in the quarterfinal round at the Tacoma Dome. That victory pitted them against Kamiakin in the state semifinal round, as the Lancers won and advanced to the state championship against Bellevue.

They put on a great performance and won 71-56. It was Lakes' first state championship in school history. Click for the game coverage at the Tacoma Dome.

Clover Park was holding it down for the city on the other side of the state in Yakima at the eight-team 2A state hoops tournament. The Warriors avenged their loss to Squalicum in the opening round of the state tourney on Feb. 25 at Mount Tahoma High School with a 69-54 victory to claim the 2A state championship, the first one as well in the school's history.
