They're Still Above the National Average, But Gas Prices Falling Around Town

It's $3.99 a gallon at several Lakewood stations.

Finally, some good news for weary drivers: Gas prices are on the decline in the Tacoma area. Granted, there's no telling if they'll stay that way - and they're still way higher than the national average, but a break is a break.

Local gas prices have dropped from an average of $4.312 a gallon a week ago to $4.205 Thursday. That’s a 10.7 cent difference. And even better, there are several stations in the Lakewood area where gas is less than $4 a gallon. As of this afternoon, a gallon of regular gas is $3.99 at:

  • Chevron, Lakewood Drive and 74th Street West
  • 76, Bridgeport Way Southwest and Custer Road Southwest
  • Chevron, Bridgeport Way Southwest and 108th Street Southwest
  • 76, Bridgeport Way Southwest and 108th Street Southwest

Additionally, while gas is $4.01 a gallon at Safeway in Lakewood Towne Center, with a Club Card and the bonus coupon in this week's ad for double gas rewards, it is $3.91 a gallon. A bargain (?!) indeed!

Before Memorial Day, analysts predicted that the price of a gallon of gas could jump 10 to 35 cents a gallon, but the actual increases were smaller.
