Semi-Truck Crash Blocked All Lanes On Interstate 5 On Thursday Near JBLM (UPDATE)

A semi-truck crash on Interstate 5 near Joint Base Lewis-McChord blocked traffic for more than 30 minutes today in Lakewood.

West Pierce Fire & Rescue responded to the crash on southbound I-5 this around 1:30 p.m.  A semi-truck crashed into the median, blocking all lanes of traffic.

Two other vehicles, a small sedan and a motorhome, collided into the semi after it hit the median, the fire department says. Two people were transported to the hospital, one with serious injuries, and the other with minor.

Washington State Patrol slowly cleared all lanes of traffic. The cause of the crash is unknown at this time.

A Gig Harbor semi-truck driver was transportated to the hospital after his vehicle hit the barrier on Interstate 5, a crash that brought traffic to a standstill for 30 minutes Thursday.

Another man from Gig Harbor was involved in the accident, but he was not injured.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Louis Holst, 49, was injured after his vehicle - a 1999 Kenworth T200 semi-truck - struck the left barrier headed southbound about 1:30 p.m.

His vehicle was travelling on I-5 when he exited at Exit 122, in Lakewood near Joint Base Lewis-McChord. The semitruck then got back onto the highway, then hit the barrier.

According to the WSP, a car driven by Jason Miller of Rochester, 33, braked to avoid the semi-truck. That forced a motor home driven by James Allen of Gig Harbor, 60, to crash into the car, which pushed it into the semi-truck.

The crash forced the semi-truck across all lanes, which were blocked for nearly 30 minutes.

The collision sent Holst to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma.

Miller was sent to St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood. Allen was not injured.

WSP continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
