WEEKEND: Excessive Heat May Be Gone, But Thunder, Lightning Could Hit Region

The National Weather Service has issued a fire weather watch alerting people that lightning could start new fires.

It could be a lightning kind of weekend in Lakewood and other parts of Puget Sound.

The National Weather Service has issued a fire weather watch for the region for this weekend. Temperatures won't hit 90 degrees like they did Thursday, but there is an increased chance of lightning and thunderstorms.

"Given very dry fuel conditions," the NWS warns, "lightning has the potential to start new wildfires."

This Afternoon: Sunny, with a high near 89. West northwest wind 3 to 5 mph.

Saturday: Areas of fog before 11am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 80. West southwest wind 6 to 13 mph.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 73. Southwest wind 10 to 13 mph.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 73.
