JBLM To Conduct Honors Ceremony For Maj. Gen. Stephen Lanza On Thursday

Lanza will assume command of the 7th Infantry Division Headquarters - which will provide oversight of the three Stryker Combat Teams - at Joint Base Lewis-McChord when the unit is reactivated Oct. 4.

I Corps Headquarters will conduct an honors ceremony to welcome Maj. Gen. Stephen R. Lanza at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 30 in front of the main flag pole on Lewis Main, Joint Base-Lewis McChord.

Lanza will assume command of the 7th Infantry Division Headquarters at JBLM when the unit is reactivated October 4. Secretary of the Army John McHugh announced the establishment of the new two-star headquarters April 27 at JBLM. This unit will provide oversight for personnel, equipment, training and readiness of three Stryker Brigade Combat Teams, a Combat Aviation Brigade and a Fires Brigade -- totaling some 17,000 soldiers.

Lanza most recently served as the Army’s Chief of Public Affairs. He previously commanded the 5th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, during its combat deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and later returned to Iraq as the Director, J-9, Multi-National Forces – Iraq.
