Brush Up on Fourth of July Fireworks Laws in Lakewood

Legal fireworks may be discharged from July 3 through July 5, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

This Independence Day, the City of Lakewood and local first responders urge residents to celebrate safely.

Here are some laws to keep in mind this holiday season.

You must be 16 years of age to purchase, possess and discharge fireworks within the City. Children under the age of 16 must be under direct supervision of an adult.

In Lakewood, fireworks may be purchased from June 28, 12 p.m. (noon) through 11 p.m. on July 4. Fireworks may not be sold between the hours of 11 p.m. and 9 a.m. from June 28 through July 3.

Legal fireworks may be discharged from July 3 through July 5, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Any use of fireworks on school grounds or park located within the City of Lakewood or in any city rights-of-way is prohibited.

Fireworks are also prohibited on the Pierce County Ferry and in Steilacoom.

Anyone found possessing illegal fireworks will be reported to the Marine Superintendent or Ferry Captain, who may contact state or local authorities at their discretion.

Violation of fireworks law in Lakewood is a misdemeanor and can lead to a $1,000 fine and up to 90 days in jail.Β
