After Scare, Bear Captured in Lakewood on Friday

The bear - which prompted automated calls from the Clover Park School District - was reportedly captured in American Lake.

A wandering bear gave Lakewood a scare today before finally being caught.

Some familes in the Clover Park School District received an automated telephone call about 3 p.m.

The call informed them that Lakewood Police requested sending no buses to Lakes High, Lake Louise Elementary, Harrison Preparatory and Mann Middle School - all of which border the Lake City Boulevard and Washington Boulevard areas to American Lake.

"There has been a bear in the area," the message stated. "As a result, buses are being “held” at the schools at this time and will depart to complete their routes once the Lakewood Police Department has given approval."

The News Tribune reports that officers with the state Fish and Wilfdlife department spotted the bear shortly thereafter near Veterans Drive and tranquilized it.
