Update: 10 Residents Displaced by Condo Fire in Lakewood's Oakbrook Neighborhood

West Pierce Fire & Rescue crews extinguished the blaze at 9:55 a.m. Thursday morning. Pierce Transit brought a bus to keep the displaced families out of the cold. There were no injuries.

Ten people were displaced in a condo fire Thursday morning, according to West Pierce Fire & Rescue spokeswoman Jenny Sharp.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze located at 8373 Zircon Drive SW in the Oakbrook neighborhood as of 9:55 a.m. There were no injuries as the residents in the six units were safely evacuated. 

The Red Cross is helping those in need of temporary housing, Sharp said.

The fire — which started around 8:30 a.m. — began in an upstairs unit where a resident was sleeping and alerted by the smoke alarm. The fire started in the bedroom and was accidental in nature upon completion of the investigation, according to Sharp.
