Detectives To Return Cars Sold In Operation "Shiny Penny" To Victims

Authorities are planning to give the cars back to the victims Wednesday in Tacoma. Last week, the Auto Crimes Enforcement Task Force arrested 26 suspects and recovered 26 stolen vehicles.

Victims of a theft ring that was busted last week following a six-month investigation will be reunited with their vehicles Wednesday.

Lakewood Police spokesman Chris Lawler said detecives with the Auto Crimes Enforcement Task Force will return stolen vehicles that were bought during operation "Shiny Penny" to the original owners in Tacoma.

Last week, detectives with the task force arrested 26 people and recovered 26 cars and 16 firearms following the investigation. They served a series of search warrants on five residences and several vehicles in Pierce and Thurston Counties.

The alleged crimes include auto theft, firearms violations, residential burglary and fraud.
