JBLM Soldier Sentenced to 10 Years for Setting Wife's Legs on Fire

A jury found 35 year-old JBLM soldier Duane Michael Rader guilty of pouring lighter fluid on his wife's legs and setting her on fire. Rader will spend the next 10 years in prison.

A Thurston County Superior Court jury found 35 year-old JBLM soldier Duane Michael Rader guilty of setting his wife's legs on fire Tuesday. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

According to an article in the Tacoma News Tribune, Rader's wife originally told investigators she set herself on fire, then admitted she lied because Rader told her it would "damage his career." The couple had only been married 6 weeks at the time and were living in Olympia.

The incident occured Feb. 13, 2011 and left the woman with second-degree burns on her legs.

A jury found Rader guilty of first-degree arson, unlawful imprisonment, felony harassment and fourth-degree assault. He was acquitted him of charges of attempted murder, tampering with a witness and another count of fourth-degree assault.
