Lakewood Police Assist FBI on Drug Bust on Sunday Night

Three people suspected of trafficking the drug Oxycodone were taken into custody after they rammed an FBI agent's vehicle and fled down Interstate 5 to Tacoma and DuPont.

Lakewood Police assisted the FBI on Sunday, when a trio of people suspected of trafficking the drug Oxycodone rammed an agent's car and tried to escape down Interstate 5.

Spokesman Chris Lawler says the FBI's Violent Crimes Task Force was working on a drug case and had planned to buy and arrest a trio of suspected traffickers from California.

"During the negotiations to purchase the drugs, the suspects tried to flee," he told Patch. "The task force members tried to box in the suspect, and he rammed the vehicle occupied by an FBI agent."

The agent wasn't hurt and his vehicle was drivable, Lawler says. The suspects fled and drove onto Interstate 5 and 56th Street, where the officers gave chase and called for assistance.

The vehicle drove as far south as DuPont, where the three people inside the car bailed when they ended up at a dead end. A K9 unit assisted, and eventually all three suspects were arrested and taken into custody.

A woman and two men were arrested on charges of conspiracy to distribute Oxycodone, possession of Oxycodone and first-degree assault for ramming the police officer.

Lawler says officers could see the drugs in the suspects' vehicle, but authorities first needed to obtain a search warrant to determine exactly how much was there.
