Lakewood Police Searching for Sexual Assault Suspect

The man attacked a woman around 7:30 a.m., Friday at The Village at Seeley Lake Apartments, on the 9500 block of 59th Avenue SW.

On March 9th, 2012 at approximately 7:30 AM, a sexual assault with a weapon occurred at The Village at Seeley Lake Apartments (9500 block of 59th Avenue Southwest) in the City of Lakewood.  The female victim had just come home to her apartment in the northeast corner of the complex.  The victim heard a knock at the door and a male stated he was “Maintenance”. The victim opened the door slightly and the male forced his way into the apartment.  The suspect produced a black handgun and sexually assaulted the victim.

The suspect was described as a white male, late thirties to early forties, 5’9”-5’10”, 180-200 pounds, with an athletic/muscular build.  The suspect has short dark brown or black hair, tan complexion, thin dark mustache with a few gray hairs and laugh line wrinkles.  He was wearing a dark baseball hat that sat high on his head, a dark colored polo shirt, and light colored blue jeans with dirt/discoloration on the front of both thighs.

Lakewood Police Detectives are looking for information on this suspect or any information about suspicious persons/vehicles/incidents in the area prior to the assault.  Tips or information can be called into the Lakewood Police Department’s Investigations Tip Line at 253-830-5064.  Tips can also be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers at 253-591-5959, where you can be eligible for a cash reward.

The Lakewood Police Department urges everyone to be aware of the personal safety and their surroundings at all times, especially when traveling alone in the area.  Women in the area are encouraged to travel in pairs and carry a cell phone to call for help.  Do not answer the door to someone you don’t know without seeing official identification or verifying the identity/employer.  When in doubt, keep the door locked and call the police.
