Last Suspects Captured in Takeover Style Robbery of Lakewood Bank

The last two suspects in three precision-planned, takeover-style bank robberies in Lakewood, Kirkland and Seattle late last year were arrested in southern California Thursday and Friday, the FBI reports.

Five suspects in the heists were arrested in January.

According to an FBI press release, its Los Angeles Fugitive Task Force arrested Charles A Williams, 40, in south Los Angeles Thursday evening. Friday morning in Hollywood, 33-year-old Janalisa Estrada was arrested without incident outside an apartment complex.

The two along with the five arrested earlier are suspected of at least three bank robberies: Sept. 6 at a US Bank Branch in Lakewood; Oct. 22 at a Wells Fargo Bank branch in Seattle; and Dec. 20 at the Bridle Trails Wells Fargo Bank branch in Kirkland.

The seven have been linked to the L.A. Crips gang. Charging documents in the earlier arrests say the gang is known to send members around the country to rob banks with sophisticated planning and precision.

In all three robberies, the suspects entered the banks in a group covered head to toe in loose clothing and gloves, jumping over teller counters and demanding money.

The five suspects arrested earlier were captured in Olympia while preparing to board a Greyhound bus for L.A., allegedly carrying $128,000. They are: Anthony V. Mosley, 46, of Tacoma; and four residents of Los Angeles: Kevin L. Brown, 38; Curtis W. Smith, 22; Douglas L. Smith, 22; and Jeannie M. Daniels, 32.

The FBI’s South Sound Gang Task Forces is investigating possible connections between three of the suspects and additional, similar bank robberies. One was on Sept. 13 of a Washington Federal Bank in Federal Way. Others include at least ten bank robberies in Michigan committed between August 2011 and August 2012 and at least one bank robbery in Ohio in 2012.

Williams, who presented a California driver’s license with the wrong name when he was arrested, is also wanted for alleged criminal activity in other jurisdictions and will first face California state charges on Monday. Estrada was scheduled to make an initial appearance Friday afternoon in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles.
