Man Gets 10 Years in Lakewood Drug Trafficking Case

The South Sound Gang Task Force arrested the man in June.

A California man arrested in Lakewood last summer was sentenced in federal court Tuesday to 10 years in prison for trafficking prescription drugs and possessing a gun.

Calvin J. Shaw, 50, of Fairfield, pleaded guilty in December to possession of oxycodone with intent to distribute, and to possession of a firearm in a drug trafficking offense, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Washington said in a statement.

The South Sound Gang Task Force arrested Shaw and his wife in June after they drove from California to deliver oxycodone to what they believed was a customer. The “deal” had been arranged by an informant, the attorney’s office said. The couple was arrested in the McDonald’s parking lot near the South Tacoma Way Park and Ride.

Police seized about 600 tablets of 80-miligram oxycodone pills and 770 tablets of 30-miligram oxycodone pills from Shaw’s suitcase. Authorities searched the Shaw home near Sacramento and found hundreds more prescription pills, suspected crack cocaine and about $12,000 in cash, the attorney’s office said. They also found a loaded revolver.

Under the plea agreement, Shaw is forfeiting the gun, ammunition, drugs, a Hummer SUV, several watches and electronic items. His sentence, issued in U.S. District Court in Tacoma, also includes five years of supervised release.
