A question of whether the older man directed the victim to be tortured and then killed is still under investigation. "We believe he knew either way what happened afterward and didn't bother to talk about it," Lawler told the newspaper.

Samaota, Freeman and Michael Crosman have been charged in the death. Crosman pleaded not guilty to aggravated first-degree murder, and Freeman pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, The Tribune reported.
