Portable Barbecue Pit Fire Damages Lakewood Home

West Pierce Fire & Rescue crews arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames, and damage is estimated around $80,000.

At 1:05 p.m., on Sunday afternoon, West Pierce Fire & Rescue responded to a residential fire at 8011 80th St. Ct. S. Crews arrived to find one end of the structure to be fully involved. The fire originated in an outdoor storage unit and quickly extended to the double wide manufactured home. Crews quickly knocked down the fire and it was declared under control at 1:52 p.m.

The cause of the fire was determined to be improper disposal of ashes from a portable barbecue pit. Damages are estimated at $60,000 to the residence and approximately $20,000 in contents. There was also some minor damage to the adjacent units. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
