Purse, Wallet Snatcher Escapes after Robbing Lakewood Church

Prince of Peace Lutheran staff member claimed suspect had a weapon. No injuries were reported, and police have not made any arrests.

A man robbed a Lakewood church on Bridgeport Way before being chased away by a staff member earlier this evening, according to Lakewood Police Lt. Dave Guttu.

Witnesses told police that the suspect, described as a black male in his 20s, 5 feet 9 inches tall, walked into the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and stole a wallet and purse out of the office around 4:30 p.m. An unknown amount of money and personal belonging were stolen.

A church member tried to stop him but the suspect escaped after he implied he had a weapon, Guttu said.
