Puyallup Semi Truck Driver Injured, Loses 100 Gallons of Fuel in I-5 Collision Near DuPont

A truck driver from Puyallup was driving too fast when he collided with two tractors on I-5 and spilled 100 gallons of fuel, according to the Washington State Patrol.

A 53-year-old semi truck driver from Puyallup was transported to Madigan Hospital after he collided with two tractors on I-5 at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday night, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The semi was totaled and spilled over 100 gallons of fuel on I-5, northbound near Center Drive in DuPont. The semi truck driver was going too fast for wet road conditions, said investigators.

All three were heading northbound from Center Drive, with the semi truck behind a brand new Kenworth tractor. The driver of the Kenworth tractor stopped for traffic when he was hit by the semi. A third truck, a 1998 Freightliner tractor, struck the semi.

Both tractor drivers were unharmed. The brand new tractor could be driven from the scene but the Freightliner tractor was totaled.

Traffic on northbound I-5 was backed up over 4 miles until almost 7 a.m. Monday morning while investigators were at the scene, WSDOT reports.
