Road Condition and Street Closures in Lakewood

Lakewood Police release major road details including a semi-truck blocking a road in the Woodbrook neighborhood. Also, urban flooding is caused by this key factor.

It's going to take some time before Lakewood and the rest of the South Puget Sound return back to normal.

Freezing rain or snow that has now become the major contributor to steet closures and power outages around city and county streets.

Lakewood is no different. Its police department tweeted useful information about Pierce County Executive Pat McCarthy around 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Here are current major road blockages and streets that have reopened:
  • Interlaaken Drive from Waverly Drive to Mt. Tacoma Dr. — The roadway is closed with barricades on each end because of several large trees and branches blocking the roadway. Power lines are down as well. Utilities have been notified.
  • Hipkins Road and Mt. Tacoma Drive — The roads are blocked due to downed power lines. Utilities have been notified.
  • Nyanza Drive (near Nyanza Park Drive) – One lane is blocked due to trees on power lines. Cones and barricades have been placed to divert traffic to center turn lane. Two-way traffic remains open.
  • Dekoven Street at Mt. Tacoma Drive — West Pierce Fire & Rescue are on site attempting to clear a downed communications line.
  •  North Thorne Lane (Tillicum) north of Union Avenue — Road reopened after a fallen tree.
  •  Lake Steilacoom Drive at the 10600 Block — Tree are down including utility lines. Public works to be contacted.
  • Woodbrook at 150th Street Woodbrook – A semi-truck is blocking the roadway. The semi-driver has called for assistance
  • North Thorne Lane – The tree has been removed. The roadway is opened.

Power Outages, roadway conditions

  • There is widespread power outages throughout the city including traffic signals without power.
  • Principal arterials are slushy to bare pavement. Secondary arterials are slushy to bare pavement.
  • Standing water is widespread due to snow-blocked catch basins.
  • Anticipate roadway temperatures to remain above freezing.
  • Crews will focus on getting blocked roadways cleared and then back to plowing main roadways.
  • Watch out for urban flooding after catch basins clear.
