Police Authorities Ran Into Clemmons Hours Before Killing Four Lakewood Cops

The Seattle Times reports that deputies came in contact with the police murderer before he fatally shot four officers at a Forza coffee shop just outside of the city.

An interesting twist to Lakewood police murderer Maurice Clemmons' deadly actions has been revealed through a 2,000-plus page release of documents that states Pierce County Sheriff's deputies were on routine patrol when they came in contact with Clemmons just eight hours before he shot and killed four Lakewood police officers in a Forza coffee shop more than a year ago just outside of the city, The Seattle Times has reported today.

The details aren't clear where exactly the routine took place, but deputies reportedly ran into him on routine patrol at 12:38 a.m. on Nov. 29, 2009. A search for outstanding warrants resulted in nothing, deputies said, but eight hours later he went on a short but vicious police killing spree.

The initial mistake may have came when Clemmons did not report to his community corrections officer despite being required to do so within 24 hours of his release from jail, The Times reported.

The Times' story also points to new details regarding missteps by the state Department of Corrections and others just before Clemmons' deadly crimes, adding there were opportunities of preventing his future violent actions. The story mentions a failed attempt in bringing Clemmons in by Jail Sucks Bail Bonds in Chehalis when he cut the GPS tracking device two days after he was released on Nov. 25.
