Police: Woman Killed at Starlite Swap Meet A Lakewood Resident

The woman who died when she was hit by a minivan Wednesday evening at the Starlite Swap Meet parking lot in Lakewood had a last known address in Lakewood, according to Lakewood Police Lt. Chris Lawler.

Angela Wiese, 51, was fatally injured during the accident, The Tacoma News Tribune reported. She was transported to Tacoma General Hospital and was pronounced dead less than two hours later.

Lakewood Police say there were no obvious signs of impairment to the 62-year-old man who was driving a yellow, full-sized minivan that killed Wiese and seriously injured a 47-year-old man who suffered a broken pelvis and leg.

The driver of the van—who pulled over shortly after the accident—agreed to a voluntary blood draw, police say, adding it will take up to three weeks to see if drugs or alcohol were involved.

The driver of the van told investigators he was trying to back up and thought he was in reverse. When he realized he was moving forward, he went to step on the brake, but stepped on the accelerator instead.

"Our traffic unit will do a mechanical test on the van, but it's looking like human error may be the cause," Lawler said.

No arrests have been made as the department awaits for the results of the toxicology exam and other details related to the fatal accident.
