Washington State Patrol: 1,200 DUI Arrests in the First Quarter

The Washington State Patrol released its first quarter progress report for District 1.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Pierce and Thurston county troopers in District 1 pulled over a total of 36,019 drivers, including more than 1,200 impaired drivers, in the first quarter.

The WSP released its progress report for the first four months of this year. 

  • (DUIs) Impaired drivers:  Troopers removed 1,261 drivers from the roadways who where impaired by alcohol and/or drugs.  
  • Speeders:  Troopers stopped 16,231 speeding drivers and issued 11,231 tickets.
  • Seat belt violations: Troopers stopped 3,345 drivers for not wearing a seatbelt and issued 2,959 tickets.
  • Aggressive drivers: Trooper stopped 2,340 aggressive drivers who have committed two or more moving violations that are likely to endanger persons or property or any single intentional violation that requires defensive reaction by another driver.

In addition, the WSP also responded to 16,669 calls to assist stranded motorists, remove debris from the road and provided back-up to other troopers and law enforcement agencies.

Pierce and Thurston county troopers also made 419 drug arrests, recovered 20 stolen vehicles and investigated 2,409 collisions.
