West Pierce Fire & Rescue To Hold 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

The ceremony is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Station 31, located at 3631 Drexler Dr. West in University Place.

West Pierce Fire & Rescue will be hosting a remembrance ceremony at the 9/11 Reflection Park on Wednesday, Sept. 11.

As a part of the ceremony, a bronzed firefighter statue will be unveiled and dedicated.  Please join us at 6 p.m. at Station 31, located at 3631 Drexler Dr. West in University Place. Light refreshments will be served following the ceremony.

In 2011, West Pierce was awarded a piece of steel from the World Trade Center. A committee was formed with a broad cross-section of West Pierce employees, local architects, designers, artists and contractors to design and build the Reflection Park in order to properly display this artifact.

No tax money was spent creating this park and in-kind donations were crucial. The employees of West Pierce and countless volunteers played a key role, volunteering their personal time and talents toward the project’s completion.

On Sept. 11, 2012, the park was dedicated and opened for the public to visit and enjoy. Since then, West Pierce has added a Firefighter Line of Duty Death memorial stone. The statue will highlight the park’s completion.
