4-2 Styker Brigade Soldier To Receive Purple Heart Today

Pfc. Jared D. DePaul - assigned to 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division - was injured while serving with his unit in Kandahar province, Afghanistan.

Pfc. Jared D. DePaul, assigned to 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, will be awarded a Purple Heart, during a ceremony Friday, at 3:15 p.m., at the battalion command area, Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Maj. Gen. Stephen R. Lanza, the 7th Infantry Division commanding general, will pin the award on Pfc. DePaul. DePaul was injured while serving with his unit in Kandahar province, Afghanistan.

The Purple Heart was established by General George Washington on Aug. 7, 1782, during the Revolutionary War. It is awarded in the name of the President of the United States to members of the Armed Forces who have been wounded or killed in action.

The 4th Bde., 2nd Inf. Div., is currently deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
