CITY MANAGER INFOBULLETS: Swallows Have Hatched, B-1 Bombers and Tunnel of Hope

The swallows at the Interlaaken Bridge over Lake Steilacoom have hatched, which means bridge improvement work should resume and be finished next week, reports City Manager Andrew Neiditz.

  • Interlaaken Bridge over Lk Steilacoom:  The swallows are hatched.  The bridge improvement work should resume and be finished next week.
  • B-1 Bomber Superload:  Contractor’s Cargo Company will be transporting a B-1 Bomber Fuselage thru the City of Lakewood late Saturday night and early Sunday morning.  The superload will travel along Bridgeport Way, Lakewood Dr, 100th St & S. Tacoma Way.  The superload which is over 29 feet wide and over 160 feet long will take up multiple travel lanes as it is escorted by multiple State Patrol units.  Please stay clear of all superloads traveling thru the City. Use an alternate route if necessary.  The B1-Bomber is owned by Boeing and is being transported from Portland, OR to Boeing Field this weekend.
  • Tunnel of Hope at Lakeview:  The Lakeview Hope Academy welcomed returning students and first-timers with their annual “Tunnel of Hope” event on September 5th.  The “Tunnel” is made up of caring adults who are welcoming the students of Lakeview Hope Academy back to school. Participants included West Pierce Fire and Rescue, the City’s Community Safety and Resource Team (CSRT) staff, as well as teachers, parents and other adults who are encouraging young students to have a good school experience.
  • Bridgeport Way North (WalMart area) street improvement project update: The City’s contractor anticipates the paving schedule as follows:  pavement repair on September 18th, grind-off the existing pavement along curb lines on September 19th, pre level the existing pavement on September 20th, and finally on September 21st and 24th asphalt overlay the entire roadway from 75th to Chambers Creek crossing.  All work will be done at night between the hours of 7:00 pm to 5:00 am. During the night work, one lane in each direction will remain open and there will be limited closures of driveways.  At least one driveway for WalMart will remain open.
