Denny Heck To Discuss Legitimate Marijuana Business Bill

Congressman Denny Heck will host a town hall-style public event titled “Preventing Violent Crime and Tax Evasion: Letting Legitimate Marijuana Businesses Use the Banking System” at Olympia City Hall.

Interested members of the public are invited to hear from the Congressman about a bipartisan bill he has co-sponsored in Congress - the Marijuana Business Access to Banking Act of 2013 - which would let legitimate marijuana businesses access the financial system, including banks and credit unions.

These businesses are currently prohibited from using the financial system, forcing them to operate on a cash-only basis. Allowing them to use the financial system would reduce the risk of violent crime and tax evasion within the legitimate marijuana industry.

A panel of experts in the field will also speak on the issue and field questions on the subject.
