Family of Leah King, Girl Who Died At JBLM In 2009, Reportedly Gets $40,000 From Government
The News Tribune is reporting that the family of the girl - who sneaked on base with Army Pvt. Timothy Bennitt and overdosed - settled with the U.S. Attorney's Office.
The family of a 16-year-old girl who overdosed on drugs and died at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in 2009 has reportedly settled with the federal government for $40,000.
The News Tribune is reporting that the family of Leah King - who lived in Tillicum at the time - settled with the U.S. Attorney's Office, as well as the private security service in charge of the gates at the time. King was the girlfriend of Army Pvt. Timothy Bennitt, who was assigned to then-Fort Lewis and got her onto the base. There she overdosed on painkillers.
Bennitt was convicted by a military judge and currently is in military prison.
