Flags to be Lowered for Cpl. Brandon Hocking, Nephew of Lakewood's Svea Pitts

City of Lakewood Employee of the Quarter relative was killed in Iraq on March 21 when his unit was attacked by a roadside bomb.

Governor Chris Gregoire has directed that Washington state and United States flags at all state agency facilities be lowered to half-staff today in memory of U.S. Army Corporal Brandon S. Hocking, 24, of Seattle who died on March 21 of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle in Iraq, according to the Washington state government web site.

Hocking was the nephew of Lakewood Police Senior Office Assistant Svea Pitts who recently won the City of Lakewood Employee of the Quarter award along with Willie Gardner, municipal specialist. You can read about Hocking here.

Andrew Neiditz, Lakewood City Manager, said this one really hits home at Monday's Lakewood City Council study session at the Lakewood Police Department.
