Fort Lewis Museum Remembers Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf

Schwarzkopf, who died Thursday, served two assignments at Fort Lewis, now Joint Base Lewis-McChord. The museum hopes people will visit to learn more about him and share their stories.

The Fort Lewis Museum remembers I Corps and 1st Brigade, 9th Infantry Divison Commander, General Norman Schwarzkopf who died yesterday, Dec. 27, 2012.

Gen. Schwarzkopf served 2 assignments at Fort Lewis (JBLM) and altogether served from 1956 to 1991. Called "Stormin Norman" and "The Bear", Gen. Schwarzkopf's legacy with Ft. Lewis and Operation Desert Storm is a symbol of leadership and dedication to our great nation!

I was his Command Sergeant Major when he assumed command of the 1st Bde, 9th Infantry Division in 1977. He was a soldier and a commander of the highest degree. He was a full Colonel at the time and arrived from command in Alaska. I couldn't have asked for a more worthy Commander as I ended my Army career. A true honor it was to serve so close to him. RIP General...

Thank you so much sharing, Com. Sgt. Maj. Soden. You actually worked that closely with him? It sounds like he was soldier of the highest character. We're grateful to him and you for your service.
